Dubai Police arrested 41 tourists of Arab nationality involved in an organised begging operation based out of a hotel, seizing over Dh60,000 in the process.
Dubai Police launched a targeted security operation, codenamed Al-Misbah (Arabic for 'prayer bead'), resulting in the arrest of 41 individuals involved in organised begging. The suspects had entered the UAE on visit visas and were residing in a hotel used as their operational base.
The operation was initiated after a report to the 901 call centre highlighted individuals begging while selling prayer beads and accessories. Surveillance by the Monitoring and Analysis Section led to the arrest of three individuals observed asking for money.
Upon interrogation, the suspects confessed to being part of a wider group. Coordination with hotel management led to the arrest of 28 more individuals, with 10 additional suspects apprehended the following day as they attempted to leave the premises.
Authorities seized over Dh60,000 from the group. All suspects have been referred to the relevant authorities for legal action.
The operation is part of a wider annual security plan that includes increased patrols and awareness campaigns. This strategy aims to curtail begging activities, especially in areas with high foot traffic or near hospitality venues.
As Dubai continues to develop as a global tourism and business destination, authorities remain vigilant in preserving public safety and social order. This operation underscores ongoing efforts to protect residents and visitors while supporting legitimate charitable initiatives.
