In the early hours of Sunday, a brutal attack occurred in Saint-Tropez targeting Robert and Carmen Geiss. Four masked assailants broke into their villa while the couple was alone in the house. Carmen was threatened with a knife, and Robert tried to fight off the attackers β unsuccessfully. He sustained multiple injuries and had to be taken to the hospital.
Around 3 a.m., neighbors alerted the police. By then, the perpetrators had already fled β escaping through the garden into the darkness. Investigators at the scene found clear evidence of the attack: blood on the carpet and destroyed furniture.
"It felt like a movie β only we were in the middle of it," Carmen and Robert said later, in tears. Carmen suffered cuts on her neck; Robert may have sustained multiple broken ribs. Their daughters were in Monaco at the time and are safe.
The police suspect a targeted assault. It is believed that the attackers knew the couple was home alone. So far, there are no solid leads.
A video (press the button on top of page) shows Robertβs first reactions after the attack.
We are deeply shaken.
