WeRide brings the Middle East's first fully driverless robotaxi to Abu Dhabi, signaling a new era of smart mobility and real estate transformation.
Chinese tech firm WeRide has launched the first fully autonomous robotaxi service in Abu Dhabi, operating without any onboard safety drivers. The expansion includes high-demand urban zones such as Al Maryah Island and Al Reem Island, complementing existing coverage around Yas Island, Saadiyat Island, and Zayed International Airport.
After receiving a national license for autonomous vehicle deployment from the UAE government in July 2023, WeRide gained further momentum by partnering with Uber in December 2024 to launch the region's first commercial robotaxi ride-hailing service. These moves align with Abu Dhabiโs broader smart mobility strategy and position the city as a global leader in autonomous transport.
As a member of the Abu Dhabi Smart & Autonomous Systems Council, WeRide contributes to developing policy and infrastructure frameworks that facilitate long-term urban and economic development. The UAEโs continued investment in AI, smart logistics, and autonomous systems paves the way for integrated real estate ecosystems that support 24/7 mobility, seamless logistics, and investor confidence.
With fully autonomous operations already in motion and commercial services expected to expand by summer 2025, Abu Dhabi is poised to become a benchmark for smart urban mobility. Investors should monitor property assets along these corridors, as early positioning may yield superior returns amid rising demand for connected, innovation-driven communities.
